Camping With Kids

Camping with kids gives families quality time together. Camping with kids is not always an easy task but it is very rewarding.  Help your kids learn to enjoy outdoor activities.

Camping with kids is important for families. In addition to enjoying being in the outdoors, one of the reasons our family started camping is so that we stop working on the house and the yard every weekend. Plus, we knew that we needed to get away from the TV and spend time together as a family. Camping with kids shows kids that there is more to life than video games, TV and playing with their friends. In the end, they will walk away with fond memories of their family.

Involve Kids in Planning your Camping Trip

When camping with kids, ask them to help plan your camping meals and activities. If you let your kids help put the menus together for each meal, they are more likely to eat what you prepare.  Our kids like canned stew and potatoes; in fact, we always have a can of stew on the first night of each trip. As you can see, camping with kids becomes pretty easy when they help with the meals.  Also, if your kids are old enough, put them in charge of packing up some games and other items to bring on your trip. When you arrive at your campsite, teach your kids how to help set up the tent, trailer, or RV. Even small children can help carry things.

Camping with Kids - Doing Things Together as a Family

We insist that our family do some things together when we are camping. We enjoy hiking and biking the trails together. Camping allows you to teach your kids about nature – look for certain types of birds, examine the wildflowers, show your kids how to catch a fish. Teach your kids how to build a campfire. Camping with kids means your family will have some "forced" time together and it usually ends in lots of laughs. We find ourselves doing things we never have time for when we are at home. Our youngest child loves camping because the whole family spends time together and we have to interact with each other. She even kids us about how the family gets along better when we are camping!

Outdoor Kids Gear
Camping With Kids Creates Lasting Memories.

Your kids will always remember the simple pleasures and surprises. When sharing outdoor activities with the family, simple experiences are often the most memorable. One night as we sat around our campfire and talked about our day, suddenly a large raccoon climbed up on our picnic table and everyone froze. We still talk about it. During another trip we rented a canoe and as we slowly paddled along, a beaver swam out in front of us and slapped its tail on the water! We were stunned and the kids were mesmerized. Seeing wild animals up close was definitely something we couldn't have planned for, even though we carefully plan each camping trip!!

Camping With Kids is definitely a rewarding experience.
