Camping accessories are items that make camping easier, more efficient, and often MORE FUN! The whole family can join in when you are assembling and adding to your camping accessories.
I think everyone agrees we need camping gear. But what really gets to be a lot of fun is choosing the camping accessories. Like camping gear, you will find it rather fascinating to look at the campers in the campsites around you and see what everyone has for the latest camping accessories. The thought that will run through your head is “how did they think of that camping accessory?”.
Camping Accessories Large and Small
Camping accessories can be small – perhaps a Coleman Illumistick glow light for the kids or how about a nice table cloth and citronella candle for your picnic table? On one of our trips, we noticed our neighbor had a really cool tripod to use when cooking over the open campfire. Another time we admired our neighbor’s copper tube to make the campfire turn colors.
Of course camping accessories can be large as well – one of our relatives showed up with a new screen tent. We couldn’t believe they would buy this but it really came in handy when it rained and the bugs were biting us – we ended up playing games and eating our dinner under it!! Now we want one!!!
My husband’s grandparents - we call them the masters of camping - have camping accessories that are tried and true. Grandma has a neat tray that she uses to carry her food, utensils, and condiments from the camper or tent to the picnic table. She also has a table she places by her chair – pretty handy. A waterproof dry gear bag with handles is quite helpful when it comes to carrying all of your toiletries to the restroom when you’re ready for a shower. My husband likes a plastic grocery bag for this, but I prefer a bag I can hang up, my neighbor can’t see through it, and I can’t accidentally poke a hole in it!!
We have discovered that some camping accessories are really quite necessary – be sure to include a mat for outside your tent or camper, a good whisk broom and pan, and a plastic Rubbermaid container for your small grill and charcoal; this will protect them from the elements. Your vehicle will also stay tidy as you transport your grill and charcoal.
Creative Camping Accessories
Remember to be creative when it comes to your camping accessories. We made a lantern stand out of a heavy rod – it is easy to install into the ground and it allows us to put our lantern in a safe spot away from our tent or camper.
Check out your camping neighbor’s awning lights and go ahead and read their welcome sign if they have one – you might just make some new friends from another state. After all, asking them about the sign they’ve installed outside
their camper or tent or commenting on their race car awning lights is a great starting point for a conversation that, if you are lucky, will give you some more good ideas for your camping accessories inventory!! When putting together your camping accessories, be sure to encourage, the whole family to participate!
