Camping Life – It Started With a Family
The camping life has been in our family for over 65 years. The camping life can be rustic or it can be very modern. Camping is getting so modern – it is often fun to get back to old-time camping. However, we also are the first to admit that the new campers on the market are really a nice way to make your camping experience easy and comfortable. We can tell you first-hand about both old-time camping and modern camping. Camping life can be many things. Our goal is to share our family camping experiences and give you lots of good ideas so that you can enjoy the camping life as much as we do!
Camping Life Can Begin at Any Age
My husband camped since he was a baby. His grandparents and parents made the camping life easy for him – they would pitch a tent and spend the weekends living in the outdoors. Surrounded by campers and obviously taught by the best, my husband took to the camping life like a fish takes to water (and as the old stories are told, they actually caught a lot of fish back then, and the fish seem to get larger as the stories are told over and over).
In 1992, my husband decided to introduce me to the camping life experience. I was expecting our first child and the whole camping life thing sounded just a bit intimidating. The closest thing to camping for me had been draping a blanket over some chairs in the living room when I was a kid.
We started out with a canvas tent and a borrowed cooking stove. We also had a car filled to the brim with camping gear my husband said we’d need (actually I packed half the house).
It was July and we arrived at the campground ready to start the camping life of fun adventures. The rain was relentless and I sat in the car and watched my camping life hero-husband set up the tent in the rain. It was so chilly you could see your breath! So much for the camping life of luxury I had pictured in my head!
And so, our camping life journey as a family began. Through common sense, tried and true experience, and humor, we will equip you with the knowledge you will need for a fun family-camping adventure.
